Murphy’s Law

Make sure to Get a good quality backup for your backup, these are the 2 laptops I tried to do my presentation on last night, The small Dell note-book which i could speak through however had very little movement capabilities and kept crashing, on the other hand the aspire had great movement and controls, I could hear everyone but the mic didn’t work so i could not speak,it kept overheating and powering down, the phase Murphy’s Law springs to mine, By the end of the presentation not only were the 2 laptops fried, my brain had crashed and powered down also, sorry for my untimely departure last night. I am going to post pictures of how my presentation should have looked shortly

Giving it some Muscle

Think i’m getting places have it all worked out in my head, i’m not going to build  anything to elaborate, my final plan is to have 2 rotating columns  with the Mobius strip   (i will explain its relevance later) and do a presentation  slide show for about  5 minute , fingers crossed  ;0

Don’t worry Bill and Mike i’m saving everything into my inventory,

More importantly I still don’t have a clue what i am going to wear

When i returned from lunch i found a stranger in our presentation space.

Presentation Preparation

I think i need to pay a little less attention to my appearance, Eliza.Dee is becoming too obsessed with what  she is going to wear for the presentation.Although i love her new look, I don’t think its appropriate attire for a college presentation, so I bought new  earrings and a dress, unfortunately i am using a different vision of second life so i accidentally  deleted it before i got to try it on

Classy ah

I was getting anxious as the controls are different to the second life app i used on my old laptop, which untimely   died on me a couple of weeks ago, since then i have been borrowing different friends laptops,all of which i could down load the second life viewer. however because of licencing and other issues the DIT colleges have only one lab which can facilitate second life, which is a different  version which could not be updated , all these factors have made the course seem  little more challenging,

Getting back to the task at hand ,The packaging of the dress  would not seem to delete as easily  on the college version of second life,  i had click on the item in the receive box in my inventory, transferred it to the ground which was right in the middle of mike and bills presentation space, unfortunately i panicked and deleted it, I didnt want to ruin the feng shui of iole presentation space  😦  I guess i will just have to go shopping again, or maybe i will just design one myself 🙂

Project Revision of Class 6 & 7

When deciding on how to approach my presentation I reflected on class’s 6 and 7

 

Class 6 was held in the Dublin conference area by Sitearm Madonna and Elfay Pinkdot, they got us thinking about how we will execute are presentations, we were shown how to create a cube name it, edit it with pictures, how to copy and import a script to make it rotate, and finally how to sit on it.

Of course when I created the cube I automatically attached to myself as an item of clothing. Madonna showed me how to detach it and save it in to my inventory, this is definitely a tool I will be using in my presentation. I lost connection for about 15mins but when I came back they were all dancing, I was a bit shy at first but soon joined in, it was great fun

 

 

Class 7 was delivered by Dudley Dreamscape and Inish Karu pervious graduates from the module “is one life enough” From the expertise on the subject matter of “working in groups” it was hard to believe they only graduated last semester, I supposed it helps that it was all still fresh in their minds, they discuss group dynamics. How to work in a group more effectively figuring out everybody’s strong points. How to get an audience and keep them entertained this was done using a PowerPoint presentation,

Unfortunately I am doing a solo project. Which has its pro’s and con’s, as I am a new user to second life I feel I would have benefitted by being in a group with mike as he has been a resident for a number of years, which was evident when I visited his school.

 

 

On the other hand sometimes it’s hard to get your ideas heard and your skills recognized when in a group of highly experience users, so at least I can be creative and reflect own personality. I have chosen to take a philosophical viewpoint that I am not sure the group would have agreed on.

 

As I do not know how to use photo shop, I did my poster in word and took a screen shot and saved it as a jpeg. I advertised it as an add on to the main event, I also did a little re advertising for the group

Relationship between Second Life and Plato’s Allegory of the Cave

Nevertheless, there is a resemblance of Plato’s principle in Second life[1]. The effort to reproduce Plato’s principle that reality is not visible to see in the physical world of senses, because it is in a constant state of flux they are merely presentations of a perfect form. Using the example of the allegory of the cave, Plato describes People in the physical realm as being  dragged from issues and essence just like the prisoners who have been chained and made to see images cast by unseen puppeteers. In a similar manner, the prisoner who escapes the cave, on his return he cannot explain the external world to a colleague quite simply because they do not have any idea of what the outside world looks like. Thus, the reality they encounter is just nothing but like the images on the wall[2]. The same also applies in attempting to describe to people the kind of possibilities that are likely to be provided by the ever changing developments in social technologies. It would be hard for such individuals to understand these issues because they may not understand the principle behind it unless they try it[3].

In Second life, an idealized version of a place or some kind situation has been constructed. This kind of medium facilitates the approach to real Platonic form. Again, it enhances the entry of a flawless realm, although it is still comprised digitally of byte and bits. Does using cyber space make the approach to real life become somewhat of an illusion? However, the question that many people ask themselves is to know whether this perception is related in any way to the Platonic principle[4]?

My first place of interest

I decided to take another look at the class presentation venue in second life, owned by fellow classmate, Mike Meltzers. The babel language school, – http://slurl.com/secondlife/Pak/75/242/92 I saw mike and bill there, they were hard at it there was a few sound issues, however it still seem to flow together, I tried to talk to them  but  I guess they were too busy to talk or maybe they did not recognise me lol.  The whole venue is very well structured and organised, the school part is very colourful and informative the description is as follows

– First School of Languages and Translation at Second Life
This is the team, that makes all better to express themselves – learning a second language (or a third or fourth …) comes easy with this high qualified group of teachers, translators, consultants and managers.
– English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Russian, Chinese, Danish, Dutch etc. lessons and classes
– Language courses and language learning[1]

I had asked mike if i could build there, he didn’t reply so I hope it will be alright ,  I plan to build two rotating cubes from the creation class with Madonna, I will also do a picture slide show,  however this could all change tomorrow.

My second place of interest

The second place i decided to visit was philosophy island, this was my second attempt  to find the island ,the  first time round i ended up somewhere a little more exotic I chose this place as i am taking a philosophic view point on the term “changing tides” i was hoping to get some inspiration , however i had no such look, although the buildings and gardens were very pretty and well constructed, I still  felt there was something missing.

My Makeover

Introducing the new me “eliza.dee” I decided to alter my appearance for the presentation on Thursday the old me seemed a little boring. I clicked on the appearances tab and designed my own clothes. I also designed my own hair using the different tools to style and colour it. I saved this new look under presentation in my inventory, I bought my new eyes at the market they were only $1 what a bargain. Hope everyone will reconiges me on Thursday
